September 26 - 28 - Artique's Fall Forecast -
You'll Fall in Love with Leaf Leather, Silver Seasons, and BabaZuZu |
|
 |
 |
No Leaf Has Touched
The Leather!
Surprised? |
Each leaf represents a unique stamp created by C. L. Whiting, Artist and Master of Leathercraft .
Educated in art and apprenticed under an Italian engraver, Whiting discovered the ability to produce tools in the shape of leaves with uncanny microscopic detail. |
 |
 |
|
| Like an artist painting a picture, Whiting tools an entire hide to create an original, one-of-a-kind work of art which is then made into finely detailed, meticulously finished leather goods. These beautiful works of art, no two alike, are sought by fine gift stores, collectors, and notable art galleries across the country. |
 |
 |
On Saturday & Sunday, September 20 & 21 - visitors to Artique's Lexington Green gallery will enjoy meeting renowned glass artist Rollin Karg and seeing his latest work both large and small.
Glass sculptures are a dynamic, dimensional and intoxicating art form that creates a level of sophistication and aesthetic beauty… anywhere. Rollin Karg has captured the essence of form and function for homes, businesses, and large commercial endeavors.
Rollin Karg studied hot glass at Emporia State University, commuting from Wichita while building his first furnace. He originally came to attend Wichita State University on a football scholarship. His birthplace is Columbus, Ohio, but he was raised in Miami, Florida. Many changes have taken place in his artistic direction since he came to Wichita over thirty years ago. |
 |
| While Karg prefers to use traditional techniques of glassmaking that are thousands of years old, he also adds his own inventive techniques to each project. He has quickly gained notoriety for his contribution to the world of glass art, winning many awards in competitions and shows throughout the United States. |

Butterfly Benches are Back! |
 |
Cricket Forge was the first in the market to introduce the Butterfly Bench. Since 1999 many have tried to copy it, but no one has been able to match its beauty or durability. If it is not stamped ©Cricket Forge, it's not The Original Butterfly Bench, don't be fooled with imitations.
Ever since Artique started exhibiting these fanciful benches, we haven't been able to keep one in the gallery long. Come and have a seat soon! |

The Playful Use of Words in Art
Artique continues our celebration of artists who incorporate the written word in their creations through the June 20th Downtown Gallery Hop. |
Come to Artique at Lexington Green on Saturday, May 31st, to meet Terah Cox!
Terah's line of greeting cards and framed and unframed poems can be found in galleries and stores in 15 states. Here in Lexington they are only available at Artique.
|
|
TERAH COX is a long-time lyric writer, artisan and author of several books. Since 2001 her original poetry creations have commemorated special occasions, life passages and sentiments for people of all ages and walks of life. Often praised for its soulfulness and deeply personal yet universal appeal, Terah’s work is showcased in a small number of fine galleries and bookstores across the country. |
Terah attributes her love of writing to “the power of words to spark meaningful experience -- within one’s own heart, mind and soul -- and in relationship with others.” Her framed poetry pieces are constructed with layers of textured handmade papers and all tree-free materials. Her poems, greeting cards and magnets are also available as vegetable-ink prints on partly recycled papers.
As a lyric writer, Terah has had over 150 songs recorded for CDs, film and television. She is also author of a how-to guide for songwriting and the music business, You Can Write Song Lyrics (Writers Digest Books 2000). Her second book, Birth Angels (Andrews McMeel/Simon & Schuster 2004), introduces the 72 Angels of the Tree of Life and explores their true purpose in the human realm. Her current book, The Story of Love & Truth (available at Artique Gallery as a limited handcrafted edition), is an inspirational fable about the adventures and eventual rescue of Truth from its journey into the world without Love by its side. She also conducts private mentoring and group workshops on writing, consciousness and multi-traditional metaphysics.

"A Little Friendly Advice" - © Leo Posillico |
In the mid 1970’s, Leo Posillico created the figure that has become his signature character in all of his paintings and 3-dimensional mixed media pieces. Simplifying shapes to animate the basic human emotions in all of us, he created elongated, raceless, genderless figures composed of a single color each.
|
These expressive figures have detached heads and are quite animated by the movement of their arms and legs with their detached hands and feet.
Posillico's insightful and playful use of word and emotion generates countless delightful expressions you'll want to share. Explore his line of greeting cards at Artique.
A graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York City, Posillico's original pieces can be seen via international and national publishers and galleries as well as at select art shows around the country and in his new gallery in Sausalito California.
|
"You Listen So Well" - © Leo Posillico |
|
Check out Erin Smith’s fun and sassy artwork! |
 |
Erin's artwork is the result of a mixed media process that includes original painting, digital imaging, vintage family photographs, and the artist's own meandering prose.
She writes everything herself and is “inspired by my world and the often skewed view in which I see it.”
Her line of greeting cards sold out in 6 weeks at the beginning of this year.

"Leigh’s whimsical work has been in the making for the better part of her twenty-nine years. Born and raised in St. Louis, Leigh began designing in seventh grade where she got poor marks in Math class for doodling. She went on to attend University of Kansas School of Design and holds a BFA in Visual Communications. Her work has been featured in national design publications and regional art shows and is inspired by her incredible friends and family. Leigh has lived in Boston for six years and likes it so much she only occasionally wishes it were Paris."

Earl Hayes Raglin resides in Lexington and has been around horses all his life. He grew up on King Ranch Farm on Old Frankfort Pike in Midway.
“My dad was a horseman,” says Raglin, “and braver than I am. I’d rather catch them on film.”
Come see our exclusive collection of Raglin's images and we think you’ll agree he captures the equine spirit very well indeed.
|
Friends - Photograph © Earl Hayes Raglin |
|
Scot Kellersberger uses a plasma torch to coax the equine spirit out of sheet steel. Berger often focuses on the excitement of the race, presenting horses in the heat of competition for the lead. |
|
Originally from the Pacific Northwest,
Kellersberger has enjoyed working with metal all his life. After recently settling on a small farm outside of Salvisa, Kentucky, one of the first items on the agenda was to build a shop/studio where Scot could have the room to craft his metal art. |
| Drawing ideas from daily life, Scot likes to take everyday scenes and immortalize them in fire and metal. He and his wife Laura and kids currently own thoroughbred horses and are enjoying the friendship and community feeling of living in the Bluegrass. |

Come to Artique - Lexington Green and meet Shari Dixon -
April 11th - 13th |
|
Shari Dixon has merged her graphic design training
with a strong background in fashion, creating a line
of jewelry that is not only timeless and artistically well
rounded, but stylish as well. |
A firm believer that women want to feel beautiful,
feminine and strong all at once, her motifs incorporate
natural elements such as flowers and feathers,
immortalizing their fragile lives by sealing them with a poly-resin, preserving
the form and adding a spectacular glazing effect.
These elements then become a
handmade design that is combined with curious and daring color choices in a multitude
of natural materials such as genuine stones, fresh water pearls and interesting fibers,
forming whimsical and extremely unique designs of personal adornments.
Dixon began as a silversmith and through time has changed her line to be more versatile
and include the natural elements that she finds more inspiring and which reflect the
passion that creating jewelry brings to her life. |

Saturday, April 5th - Come and meet Holly Fisher outside Artique's Lexington Green location, and on Saturday & Sunday meet Dawn Trinkler inside.
We met Holly at the ACC Show in Baltimore and knew right away we wanted you to see her work - not just to see her fabulous sculptures, but to actually watch her create them.
We're setting up a forge at Lexington Green for the weekend so you can enjoy the creative process up close and personal. Holly will be assisted by our own local blacksmith, Jim Jones of Forge-On Ironworks in Nicholasville. |
|
|
"I feel it is very important
for artists today
to not only share
the results
of their process of creation, but part of the process itself
as well.
What better to share
than joy and laughter.......
seriously."
- Holly Fisher |
Holly Fisher has been a practicing artist in Kalamazoo, Michigan since 1995. She moved to Kalamazoo from Missoula, Montana where she completed her Masters of Fine Art Degree at The University of Montana.
In 2002 Holly started Smartshop in a dilapidated oil distributorship on the industrial north side of Kalamazoo. Since then, with great amounts of help from many members of the community, The City of Kalamazoo, and Jennifer Granholm’s Cool City Grant, Smartshop has developed into a spacious pleasing community-based atmosphere which houses The Smartshop Metal Arts Collective -SMAC (a nonprofit metalworking school),
and The Smartshop Art Gallery & Sculpture Garden (a for-profit business).
The School offers a variety of metal-related classes, workshops & seminars in well equipped,
incredibly safe & well maintained studios. The Gallery & Sculpture Garden showcase the many works of art created by Holly, her students, interns & staff, as well as a broad variety many other forms of art made by regional artists. |

|
Holly’s artistic philosophy places emphasis on creating works of art which serve the common good, enhance the inherent beauty of Kalamazoo, focus on building
cooperative partnerships with community organizations, promote positive social and economic change, as well as encourage diversity, acceptance & tolerance. |
 |
Inside the gallery this Saturday and Sunday, Dawn Trinkler will be demonstrating the technique she developed to deal with her carpal tunnel syndrome. While completing her BFA, Dawn found she was no longer able to use a brush to apply paint to canvas. The innovative techniques she created allowed her to express her talent in new ways. If you missed Dawn's visit here last fall, here's an opportunity you won't want to miss.

Misha of New York - Misha was born and trained in the former Soviet Union.
After honing his design skills at the Odessa School of Art, he came to America in 1990. Specializing in the challenging enamel processing methods in which he was trained, he immediately began working for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum Collection Catalog, reproducing famous and intricate Faberge Egg designs. He soon became known for creating original jewlery, eventually opening a retail store to market his line in New York's Greenwich Village.
Misha uses only the very best and often rare, exotic stones along with unique old world craftsmanship in very modern settings. These are pieces that can be treasured for a lifetime. |

Margaret Thurman's art led her to an appreciation for natural stones, which she considers to be
'art by God.'
Margaret, her daughter and a team of 'dreamers' create a stunning array of handmade jewelry. |

Artist Michael Michaud collects flora from his travels around the world. Your jewelry is then cast from nature's own creation in his New York studio, capturing each natural detail of the original. Silver Season's fine craftsmen then hand finish each design, often adding freshwater pearls or semi-precious stones.
Today's collection is a combination of Michael's exceptional knowledge of jewelry making and his love of nature. He has perfected the technique of creating models from natural elements and, after models are made, manipulating these "copies of nature" into beautiful jewelry. |
|
One-of-a-kind designer
Amy Kahn Russell is the forerunner in a naturalistic trend in jewelry. A fine arts graduate of Tulane, the artist's personal studies and experience often influence her designs, reflecting on visions from museums or images seen during her extensive travels. |
 |
Amy's unique jewelry has been displayed on the necks and arms of the rich and famous such as Madonna, Halle Berry, and designer Mary McFadden, to name just a few.
The distinct, unusual elements that comprise every piece make each a timeless work of art, highly prized and desired by many.

|
Phillip Zahm & Associates Jewelry - hand-crafted jewelry featuring 18K yellow/white/rose gold, palladium, platinum and fine colored gemstones. Each of their designs uses one or more colored stones as the focal point of the piece. The designs are created specifically to enhance the beauty of the gemstones. We want you to be able to find a ring you love whether your taste is simple elegance or show stopping extravagance…or somewhere in between!

One of nature's most
beautiful gems,
amber is fossilized resin
from ancient pine trees |
 |
"Believed to have metaphysical properties, amber is said to provide health, good fortune, and spiritual healing. Three pieces of amber are said to keep the wearer safe. Amber is the sunstone. Earthly and organically beautiful, no two pieces are alike, however, they can be similarly matched in color." - Amber by Graciana |
|
|
Artique also welcomes a wonderful line of clothing and accessories from the Leland, Michigan studio of Sue Burns. "All our clothing is made from 100% recycled material. Most of it from local second hand shops that have too much stock. We started out just using knits, but we've added wovens such as tweed. Although all our garments bear some similarities like the small pocket and a hand-sewn blanket stitch, we're proud that each baabaaZuzu garment is unique."
Jackets, vests, mittens, scarves, bags, hats - original design clothing – all from recycled knit and woven goods, most of it from local second-hand shops – that’s BaaBaaZuzu! |

|
Sue says, "baabaaZuzu was formed in 1994 in our Leland, Michigan home. Kevin shrunk two of my sweaters and, rather than throw them out, I made jackets for my two daughters out of them. Soon after, friends started asking me for the jackets, bells rang and I started baabaaZuzu. The name comes from the source of our wool and my nickname "Zuzu". |
The Pillbox Hat has a sophisticated, dressy look. Created from six coordinating pieces, this hat has a berber fleece lining and rolled brim.
|
|
|
| December 19-23 - |
"Hats are my passion; a hat honors not only its wearer but also the community it encounters.
It is a beacon of self-respect that we have abandoned for the most part.
Hats are more than protection against sun or wind.
They are an emblem of the woman beneath; a frame for the person within.
Wearing one of my hats is a way of saying - This is Who I am." |
So says fiber artist Joyce Jackson. Joyce has been a fiber artist for most of her life. Since 1999, felting and millinery have been her main focus. She is noted for her exquisite hat designs and unique employment of dry felting, wet felting, and needle felting as well as both traditional and non-traditional millinery techniques.
You are invited to meet Joyce at Artique's Lexington Green gallery this Wednesday through Sunday. You'll learn why "hats are symbols of power, independence and protection - especially for women." Joyce may have already created that perfectly, unique gift you've been unable to find - or your own personal statement. |

Ornament by Steve Scherer |
Steve Scherer, an accomplished 'lampwork' glassblower who lives in Edmonton, Kentucky, will join us this weekend at the Lexington Green gallery, Saturday from 10am to 9pm and Sunday from noon until 6pm. Come and watch Steve create unique Christmas ornaments with handmade figures inside.
To make them Steve first blows a sphere
out of a piece of glass tubing, leaving a hollow tube attached to the
bottom.
The sphere is opened at the top. The finished figure is inserted
through the opening and fused to the bottom of the sphere with a
special torch tip. The opening is then gathered together, sealed and
blown smooth. A loop is then added to the top.

October 13, 2007
This Saturday only, from noon until 9pm, you can meet Equine Artist, Dawn Trinkler, at Artique’s Lexington Green Gallery, and witness the demonstration of a most unusual technique. |
 |
 |
| Dawn realized her talent and love at the age of nine. She pursued the arts while attending Shawnee Mission High School. After receiving a National Nomination from New York in High School, Dawn attended KU as an Illustration major. However, she finished her BFA in painting with minors in photography and illustration. |
|
During Dawn's final years at KU she developed carpal tunnel and was unable to use a brush to apply paint to canvas. During that time she was required to complete her portfolio for finals. She brought in every mark-making object she could find, stretched a 4'x5' canvas, and proceeded to search for a new way to paint. Out of this experience the No Brushes technique came to be.
You can learn more about Dawn’s art by visiting her website now at www.nobrushes.com

Come to Artique at Lexington Green to see the latest addition to our fabulous collection of unique and hand-made craft. La Sorgente Glass Studio has created a distinctive new concept in landscape illumination. Beautiful, durable hand-blown glass adds enchanting, color-filled light to any outdoor environment. |
"It is our intention to evoke, through color and light,
the subtle qualities that inspire the human spirit." |

The soft light and luminous color of
NightOrbs™
bring a new dimension to nighttime gardens. |
Tom Rupnicki, Founder of
LaSorgente Glass Studio, first had the idea of introducing hand-blown glass into the landscape 10 years ago. He chose a spherical shape because it is considered the most perfect form. Married with color and light, NightOrbs™ are an ethereal presence in a garden, an object of beauty, a cause for meditation and an extremely durable and practical landscape illuminator.
Color also generates a response in a viewer. The right combination and placement of colors can suddenly expand the palette and create an emotional experience, like viewing Monet's "Water Lilies".
His vision in creating NightOrbs™ was to marry the healing effects of light, color and nature into a lasting, original piece of landscape art that can be enjoyed in gardens year-round - and for years to come! |

Come to Artique Lexington Green this weekend for the unveiling some unusual artwork – Wine Bottle Labels – and find out how you can join
The Whine Club – Unleashed!
Chrisman Mill Vineyards, located in Jessamine County, has created a wine club featuring limited edition bottles with labels created by talented, animal loving local artists.
|
Friday Evening Reception
6pm - 8pm
Providing the artwork for the first bottle in the series is Debbie Graviss of Versailles.
Special Selection of Canine Art!
|
|
These wine packages will be available quarterly with a new label each time. In 2007 the labels will feature a beautiful painting by a local artist of a canine in the adoption center of the Woodford County Humane Society. While this limited edition wine bottle series is for you, nestled in the package will also be goodies for your pet! You can choose to have some fun and come out to the adoption center on a designated Saturday for our pick up party, or the package can be mailed to you. There is no fee to join The Whine Club-Unleashed during this inaugural year!
Wine makers, like animal lovers, are extremely passionate and dedicated people. Wine crafters
Chris and Denise Nelson are very focused on the production of quality wine. They began the winery by working closely with a group of local farmers that dedicated their land to grapes. These grapes are truly locally grown…naturally, and you will find that proudly displayed on every bottle of wine produced by Chrisman Mill Vineyards.
The wines from Chrisman Mill are available throughout the region in many settings. You can also enjoy the pleasures of their wine at the winery located at Hamburg Village, just beside Jos A Bank Clothiers. Or visit the historic vineyard located in Jessamine County, home to the first commercial vineyard in the U.S.
Visit www.chrismanmill.com or www.woodfordhumanesociety.org for updates. Chrisman Mill has expressed that they are honored and excited to be included with the Woodford Humane Society’s passion, and are thrilled to offer this heartfelt fundraiser.
Prices per quarter will range from $25 - $40 per package (excluding shipping costs) and a portion of the proceeds of each package will benefit the Woodford Humane Society. |

Anne Sportun
ExperiMetal Mother’s Day Trunk Show |
'Procession of Sapphires' |
| Driven by her belief in a universal language of shapes and symbols, Toronto, Canada-based jewelry designer Anne Sportun looks to nature for inspiration. Anne finds perfection in asymmetrical forms and subtly translates these images into her work. By allowing pave-set diamonds to undulate in an irregular gold band, Anne combines traditional goldsmithing techniques with the unconventional. This brings a sophisticated dichotomy to her pieces. In her work and in her life, she strives to balance the precious with the everyday. |
| Awarded in Canada for her excellence in precious metal work and contemporary design, Anne has only recently made her work available to the international market. Her work is collected by those who share Anne's vision of beauty in organic shapes. Anne is currently honored by having the image of her hands and rings on the Canadian-United States postage stamp. |

Angie has been recognized with numerous TV interviews, featured articles in USA Today, Fortune, Bloomberg, The Courier Journal, The Lexington Herald, Business First, Today’s Woman and various trade publications. “Attitudes by Angie” is currently featured in the April/May Y’all Magazine, the Magazine of Southern People. |
Equine Artist, Dawn Trinkler

Phillip Zahm & Associates Jewelry
Over the last few years their innovative designs have been very enthusiastically received. Now their in-house designers have been joined by half a dozen freelance artists who are constantly developing renderings for the next exciting design. We want you to be able to find a ring you love whether your taste is simple elegance or show stopping extravagance…or somewhere in between! |

 |
Zahm’s ruby and sapphire “rainbow” bracelets are considered the finest in the industry. They have the most intense color. Each layout—the combination of colors and stones—is hand selected to graduate or match perfectly. They truly are one of a kind. |
 |
If you haven't taken a look at the Zahm line of earrings in the last few months, you'll be amazed at how it has literally exploded with new styles and designs! |
|
The vision of a stained glass window, the light filtering through multi-colored panels, dusty rays of glowing color illuminating an old French Cathedral. Can this work of lead and glass be transformed into precious metal and gems? Can the beauty and spirit of the art form be captured in a fine piece of jewelry? This was the intriguing challenge that inspired the Philip Zahm team to create the Stained Glass Ring.

Echo of the Dreamer Jewelry Designs of New York - In the heart of Manhattan's bustling garment district is a studio oasis in which Margaret Thurman creates her "Echo of the Dreamer" collection.
Her art led her to an appreciation for natural stones, which she considers to be 'art by God.' These are the pillars of her work. Margaret, her daughter and a team of 'dreamers' create a stunning array of handmade jewelry. Each piece is modern and feminine, yet rich and sophisticated.
The ring shown at left is Sterling Silver with Geisha Tile, Pink Tourmaline, Citrine, and Pink Tourmaline on back. Click to enlarge. |

Painted Bowls by Carol Bowles |
Educated at Penn State University and the Art Institute of Chicago, Carol now resides in Midway, Kentucky, where she creates her magical narrative paintings in two and three dimensions.
“I find my greatest satisfaction is producing works from ideas that I have stored up my whole life. People ask me often where I get my ideas. Some have been growing for 30 years; others have come from my traveling and reading experiences. I try to combine these elements into a multi-cultural expression that is my own. It has become natural to pursue my interest in stories by producing narrative paintings that convey meaning.” – Carol Bowles

Ornament by Steve Scherer |
Steve Scherer, an accomplished 'lampwork' glassblower who lives in Edmonton, Kentucky, creates unique Christmas ornaments with handmade figures inside.
