entucky isn't horsing around; they mean business when it comes to hosting this fall's World Equestrian Games, an event that is estimated to bring 600,000 visitors and an economic impact of $150 million to the area.

 


 

To Help Celebrate The Biggest Event To Ever Come To The Bluegrass, Artique Presents The World Equestrian Sand Sculpture

 

For a fortnight (or two weeks) this Fall, Lexington and The Bluegrass will host The World Equestrian Games, the largest event ever held in this region. Over 600,000 people from 60 countries around the world are expected to attend.  World Championships for eight equestrian disciplines will be decided at the Kentucky Horse Park in the competition's first foray outside Europe.

Cookin' in the Bluegrass will feature nightly celebrity chef dinners during the 16 days of the Games, where chefs will be cooking with local Kentucky products and produce.

Elizabeth Shatner has always been focused on beauty.

That led to her career with horses as a rider, trainer and equine judge.

"I would study photographs of Arabian horses, which are incredibly beautiful," Shatner said from her California home. "That love of beauty was probably imprinted on me at an early age.

Adoptable pets at Artique

The Woodford Humane Society will present "Dawg Daddy Day" from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Artique, 161 Lexington Green Circle. The society's adoptable dogs and cats will be featured. WLAP's Leland Conway will appear from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Call (859) 272-8802.
